Sri Lanka Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne has chosen to step down from Test captaincy after the approaching two-match Test series against Ireland. His choice comes after the Lankan Lions were taken out of the race for a compartment in the finals of the ICC World Test Title 2021-23 by New Zealand in the primary Test.
Furthermore, the side was given a gigantic loss by an innings and 58 runs in the second Test against the Kiwis at the Bowl Hold in Wellington. Following the series clear, captain Karunaratne uncovered that he had educated the selectors regarding his choice to surrender his job from the public group and for the administration to pay special attention to another commander.
Dimuth Karunaratned the selectors that it’s great to name another commander for the new test cycle, so I’m prepared to step down after the Ireland series. I am yet to hear from selectors their opinion on my choice, however I believe I really want to give the new commander to begin from the very start of the new test cycle, rather me venturing down from its center,” Karunaratne was cited as saying by Newswire.

Ireland series, the last dance as captain for Dimuth Karunaratne
Karunaratne will lead the side one final group in the impending series against the Irish side at home. The series will launch following the finish of the three-match T20I series against New Zealand. The Lankan Lions play Ireland in two Test matches beginning on Sunday, April 16, at the Galle Global Arena in Galle.
Dimuth Karunaratne opener was delegated as the substitute captain of the side, supplanting Dinesh Chandimal. In his lady stretch as commander, he enlisted a series clear 2-0 against South Africa.
